Why is it like this in Wyoming?

Wyoming has some of the cheapest electricity in the Mountain West — about 11.6¢/kWh — driven by coal-fired generation, giving PHEV drivers a solid per-mile cost advantage over gasoline. The practical challenge is infrastructure: Wyoming has roughly 3,100 registered EVs and only 332 public charging ports, one of the worst ratios in the nation. A 2026 legislative effort to eliminate the state's electricity fuel tax on slow chargers should remove one barrier to public charging expansion; home charging in Wyoming, where it's available, is among the best-value propositions in the country.
